My Favorite Way To Record Sound Effects

Recording sound effects with an M/S rig is by far my favorite way to achieve versatile recordings. Whether you want a mono file or a wide capture, this setup can deliver both with ease. I recently shot a full guide on recording SFX with the M/S technique, which includes a look at popular rigs by Schoeps and Sennheiser, along with a more affordable solution that's currently in my setup. 0:00 Int...

Making techno with a £1 portable radio and Befaco Percall
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
The radio signal is split and sent both to Percall which is triggered by a Varigate 4 and to a sample and hold (also triggered by Varigate) that modulates Percall’s envelope. Everything goes into a Kichain for some kick and side chain, the bass is Erica Synth’s bassline.

Erica Synths DB-01 Bassline: Full Guide & My Thoughts
I was so tempted to get one, your video inspired me go for it.
It’s so good 😊
Many thanks !!!
That's just a buffer effect. It's just the most basic granular engine lol is it not? 😅
One thing I dislike about the way it does multi-track operation is that if you switch from track A to B the sliders become "disconnected" and don't reflect the current state of the track. I'd like to see a mode where the additional track uses the same sequence but reevaluates the probabilities. This way if you have to VCOs they'd play on the same "scale" and changing the sequence would change the pitch of both VCOs at once. It would make it far more playable.
is this an excerpt from a full video

The light is a bit hard. Softer light is better for video!
absolute garbage
A useful short cut to getting things working between an iPad and a DAW. TouchOSC can be very difficult to understand…
It can! Thanks for watching
great stuff
Great work, thank you very much
Thank you for these explanations! Could you explain to us how to connect audio speakers to the modular system and with which module please ? 😊
Grazie mille, genio!
Don’t know about genio but thanks ;)
@@AlessandroMastroianni Niente falsa modestia! :-D After having read the manuals several times and watched tutorials I still could not understand what exact steps were needed. Your video was spot-on and easy to understand despite me using a different DAW. That's what genius is. Thanks again!
Sounds beautiful. Is this gear for only long sustains or would we be able to get short oohs and aahs? Looking for something to create standard ooh aah backup vocals. I wasn't sure if adjusting the attack would enable a believable result for that.
You can probably approximate that sound, or you can try using one of the rhythmic articulations, but this was certainly made with sustained/textural sounds in mind :)
@@AlessandroMastroianni Thank you. I appreciate the information.
Your video is amazing!! Thank you! Question: how do you operate both power and connectivity between an eurorack and semimodulars like the Moog Mavis and/or Behringer Pro-1?
You need a separate power supply (although the Mavis can be installed in a Eurorack case and get power from it). You can use regular patch cables to patch the semi modular with the modular!
Bro you rock, thank you!!!
sold! such a great creative tool - thnaks a bunch for sharing it with our world!
Thank you so much ❤️
Brilliant! Did you use the Percall for the stereo effects on the radio? I'm thinking about getting the kit from Thonk. The dimension you built with all that movement back and forth is just beautiful.
Percall goes through Soundstage, that gives the stereo effect. If I remember well I was switching Soundstage outputs with a Doepfer sequential switch
Perhaps making the User Zone more visible upfront can make users notice it more
Good feedback, but we like for it to be a little secret 🤐 🤫
@@AlessandroMastroiannito be fair, I do love this sort of Easter eggs 😀
That final piece at 9:48 is just goregous.
Ehhh too kind
I think you sold me Symphobia today… I resisted 15 years
Don't blame me! @@AlessandroMastroianni
Good lord this should be required viewing before people get started with eurorack. You have saved me countless hours of confusion and frustration. Really appreciate the time and effort you put into it.
Im so glad it was helpful!
love it, great stuff Alessandro
Thank you David!
Question. When you have only set the notes in one octave. And you start to use Linearity. Does it break the set rules(of only operating in 1 octave) and wanders to different octaves or is it playing linear in the set octave?
Just got my Clep Diaz the other day and already having a blast with it. I haven't tried quantizing it for pitch, but that's on the list of things to try...
It’s a super fun module
Is this Cubase 12? It seems Cubase have changed things in 13, tried it?
It is indeed 12
@@AlessandroMastroianni Ok. Maybe you should try the free demo of 13? It seems like you can route audio direct now.
this really saved my a´s, thanks for that. i was losing my mind because every fader of my new controller was giving out multiple values at once and i couldt assign anything without some other parameter jumping around. perfect lenght of a video!
Glad it was helpful :)
My arp doesnt work. Any idea why?
Have you checked your clock source? If it’s on EXT and you’re not clocking it it expects a signal
Just checked. That didnt work either @@AlessandroMastroianni

Awesome book, love the splatter approach to the layout and much goodness within. You should really visit Mike Stavrou's book "Mixing With Your Mind" ... one for the top shelf.
Thank you so much for the suggestion, I’ll definitely have a look
This motivates me to be more mindful of my time management !
Thank you so much for watching it, that was the idea :)
Great video; very instructive !
Thank you so much!
Great vid, throughly enjoyed your presentation. For someone just starting out, what would be a barebones addition to this module to begin experimenting?
This module can do a LOT and it’s very deep, you would at the very least need a voice (such as an oscillator). I’m using Mutable Rings in this video. The good thing is that SIG contains envelopes so you can save on that. And you might want a filter if you’re using more traditional oscillators.
This is a great Soundstage demonstration
One of my favorite modules
Great video. Would love the second one you mentioned along with specific mic use with your MS rig
Noted!
I would really like to see that second video!
I’m on it, it’s in the works
Awesome! Stoked to see it! Also, what blimp do you recommend for this setup?
Love that wind wand! Reminds me I need to get a new rubber band for mine. Great video!
Wind wands are amazing!
Great explanation. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks Alessandro! A very helpful information!
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for this great tutorial. IMO, though, it was a mistake to run the signal through a delay. It made it very difficult to hear rests, changes in rhythm, etc. There was no need for delay to demonstrate the functionality, really. Would've preferred that you leave it out. Otherwise, a fantastic tutorial.
I agree with you… I got carried away ;)
I exchanged Melodicer to get this module. This is muuuuuch more interesting..
It is an amazing module
Great concise tutorial! Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks a million Alessandro! This stuff was great effect for me! And I love the performance yours too ;)
Nice demonstration of a very interesting module. Thanks!
Thank you!
Thank you Alessandro, you have explained this very well and at a good pace and remained focus. I learnt a lot from you... cheers bud.
I’m so glad! Still one of my favorite modules
It's a real shame the dry signal still comes through degraded.
